The L CARD Launch is the first event on this year’s social calendar and allows you to catch up with old friends or meet new ones from UQ, QUT and Griffith. Don’t just bring ‘a friend’…bring all your mates, the famous law society ‘hospitality’ is available to all!

Race Starts at: 9.40 am.

How Far: 5 km (You can run, walk, march, skip- we don’t mind)

Attire: Comfortable kit. It can include wristbands, headbands, bike shorts!

The Race Day Schedule will be sent closer to race day with details of meeting place and time. It’s only a 5km distance, so come get involved and break a sweat with Quotals this year – all for a good cause!

What is included in the ticket price?
Your ticket includes a 3 course meal, 4 hour drinks package, and entry to the after party (bar tab provided there).

Where is the after party?
The after party is at the Port Office. Buses will take us from the Marriott at the end of the evening. Please note that you have to be at the Law Dinner to get a wristband for the after party bar tab.

What do I wear?
The dinner is cocktail/formal. So suits for guys and cocktail/formal dresses for girls.

I’m keen, how do I get a ticket?
Tickets will be on sale in the QUOTALS office (Level 4, C Block) from 3rd August – 18th August. The office will be open from 10 – 2pm on each of those days (except weekends) and we take cash or eftpos payment. If you can’t make it into uni during those times send us an email and we can arrange alternate payment.

I’m under 18, can I still attend?
Yes you can attend! But please note that security will be checking ID upon entry and only those over 18 will be given wristbands to have the alcoholic drinks package. Please also note that the Marriott has a very strict policy whereby security will remove anyone underage found drinking.

I can’t eat ……
The Marriott is very accommodating so please let us know when you buy a ticket if you have any dietary requirements (it makes it a bit harder if you only let us know on the night, so the earlier the better!)

What are the table arrangements?
Tables seat 10 people. So feel free to organise a group of 10 friends to sit together. But don’t fret if you don’t have a group of 10. Say if you have 6 people, we will join you up with a group of 4 others.

Anything else I need to know?
1. The Marriott has thrown in a lucky door prize.

2. Tickets are limited. So get in early to buy your tickets.

3. Drinks deals at the Port Office (during and after the bar tab) are amazing!

We kick off the year selling L Cards – THE grooviest student discount card around.

For the many first year law students who don’t know what it is, they will soon learn about the Pandora’s box of discounts and popularity this card holds within their wallet. The card costs $10 and is the gateway to free entry to most QUOTALS events.

In fact, the card back pays you back immediately with free entry to the QUOTALS, UQLS (University of Queensland Law Society) and GULS (Griffith University Law Society) annual L Card launch that celebrates the release of the 2010 card. This year the event was held at the Fox on Thursday 5th of March at 7.30pm. You not only get endowed with cheap drinks but is a chance to meet up with friends of all 3 universities.

We sell the L Card around campus throughout market week and at the door of the L Card Launch Party. 

The annual QUOTALS Law Dinner featuring HIGH COURT JUSTICE SUSAN KEIFEL will be held on Friday August 21st.

Come join us for an exquisite three course meal at the Marriott to see the return of Justice Susan Kiefel to her humble origins in Brisbane. Proudly sponsored by Mallesons Stephen Jaques, this night will be the not-to-be-missed event for Semester Two and in fact, probably THE event of 2009.

This year QUOTALS discovered a world of incomparable splendour and scale at the end-of semester Law Ball, held on Friday 15 May at Mirra, Bridge Street, Fortitude Valley. And once again QUT’s Law and Justice Students proved that it was a night not to be forgotten.

The price, $90 for L Card Holders and $100 for non-card holders, included a canapés, beer, wine, basic spirits, soft drinks and juices and entertainment all night long (from 7pm until 12pm really).

Q: Do you have to be a law student?

A: No! It’s open to anyone over 18. (Sorry! There’s First Year event coming soon!)

Q: Is there an After-Party?

A: Yes - free buses will take us to a mystery location from 11pm.

Q: What do I wear?

A: Guys - Suits! (The theme is old-school glamour so bring on the bow-ties!) Girls - Cocktail dresses or full length, whatever looks good!

Q: What do we do?

A: What DON’T you do! Dance, drink and be dashing! We leave the agenda to you. If you want a sit-down dinner, look forward to Semester Two where we will be entertained by the witty repartee of High Court Justice Susan Keifel.

QUOTALS Commitment to introducing First Year students to the law community at QUT is continuing with style as our Education Director, Ryan Nattrass and Social Directors, Charmaine Feggans and Brigitte Stafford headed up the introduction of the First Years’ lunch into QUOTALS’ Social Calendar.

This year the lunch commenced at 12.00pm after the Torts A Lecture on Wednesday 11th March and despite the incessant inquiries of Engineering and Business students, remnants of first year law students were still eating pizza and generally having a jolly good time a couple of hours later.

The event in first semester was an opportunity to meet other new students, law faculty members (both teaching and admin), the 2009 Torts Peer Mentors and the 2009 QUOTALS team.

With most other social events being 18+, QUOTALS is planning to hold another First Years’ Event in Semester 2 to keep the fun going!

It’s not just a game.

Some have described in as the last battle in an eternal war. These athletic endeavours are of such magnitude that the Olympics of ancient Greece pales in comparison.

The cause of such intense rivalry is lost to the mists of time, only to become the stuff of myths and legends. Now, the call has gone forth. Students faithful to the mighty QUOTALS’ Rugby Union team are summoned to cheer on our champions to victory. Let the world know whose side you stand with.

The annual QUT v. UQ grudge matches are upon us. Our toned and built footballers are training hard to bring the title back to QUT. Let’s show them how to really play sport at the UQ Sports Fields, Seprember 19.

Times are being confirmed however it will be in the afternoon prior to the AFTERPARTY!!! The grudge after-parties are renowned for being the party of the year so you shouldn’t miss this on.

The Day

Law and Justice Students ventured outside C Block to compete in the inaugural QUOTALS Social Cricket Day on Saturday 28 March at Jack Cook Memorial Park in Toowong. The air was competitive but social as the cricketers and onlookers turned out for a day away from the books and out in the sun, The predicted rain subsided (or at least until we made it to the Bowls Club) to make a fun day for all the cricketers and spectators. Though we tried to keep score, the publications team are really quite unsure as to who won… with drinks and snags in hand they all seemed friends and winners in the end!
